About Shanghai Vintage Hotels
Before I went to Shanghai for the first time I heard about the Peace Hotel and its Jazz band. This let me to look around and see if I could find any more vintage hotels in Shanghai.
I found quite a few, but the problem was that the information was not all in one place. This made it difficult to compare these Shanghai vintage hotels in terms of location, facilities and price.
So one reason for this website is to make this information easily available in one location.
Along the way, I... well...fell in love with Shanghai. When I leave Shanghai it is with regret and when I am not there I can't wait to get back. It is the only place where I have ever experienced
culture shock six times a day. If you are hooked on Shanghai, then you know what I am talking about.
Two things I would like to add:
First, the sub-heading for my web pages says "History, Nostalgia and Romance." That is the lens through which I view old Shanghai. Specifically, the buildings and the style. These hotels are a legacy from the period between the Great War and World War II that was and will never be again.
It must be noted that this was a time of turmoil, hardship and suffering for the Chinese nation and the Chinese people. And the result of that tumultuous time is the Shanghai we see today; vibrant, dynamic and one of the great cultural and economic centers of the 21st century.
Finally, I do not work for any of the hotel companies represented here, nor have I received any compensation in any form (not even a cup of coffee) to write about them. I do so from a sense of pleasure and wonder, and to share this information with those who are interested.
I hope you enjoy the website and find it useful. If you have any suggestions about other vintage hotels in Shanghai please send me an email and let me know about them.
